Sandblasting is the most common and preferred abrasive treatment for final finishes — used since 1870 to decontaminate bridges, built-up sections and steel structures. Our MBC crew gives special attention to corners and re-entrant angles.
→ Our procedure
Release verification, visual inspection per SSPC VIS-1, removal of weld spatter, sharp edges and burrs, dust/grease/oil cleaning per SSPC SP-1.
We pause when steel/air <5°C, RH >85%, airborne dust, rain/fog/mist, or steel within 3°C of dew point.
Dry abrasive blasting to SSPC SP10 with 95-100 psi nozzle pressure, controlled nozzle speed, distance, angle and overlap.
Surface profile 25-50 microns to Sa 2½. Post-blast cleanliness checked per SSPC VIS-1 before primer application.
Power/hand-tool cleaned areas primed within 4 hours; never left unprimed overnight.
Abrasive material meets SSPC AB1. Paint and abrasive batches certified and approved before work begins.
