Sandblasting

Sandblasting is the most common and preferred abrasive treatment for final finishes — used since 1870 to decontaminate bridges, built-up sections and steel structures. Our MBC crew gives special attention to corners and re-entrant angles.

Our procedure

Precision-controlled pre-finishing.

/ 01

Surface preparation

Release verification, visual inspection per SSPC VIS-1, removal of weld spatter, sharp edges and burrs, dust/grease/oil cleaning per SSPC SP-1.

/ 02

Environmental controls

We pause when steel/air <5°C, RH >85%, airborne dust, rain/fog/mist, or steel within 3°C of dew point.

/ 03

Blasting operations

Dry abrasive blasting to SSPC SP10 with 95-100 psi nozzle pressure, controlled nozzle speed, distance, angle and overlap.

/ 04

Profile & cleanliness

Surface profile 25-50 microns to Sa 2½. Post-blast cleanliness checked per SSPC VIS-1 before primer application.

/ 05

Primer timing

Power/hand-tool cleaned areas primed within 4 hours; never left unprimed overnight.

/ 06

Materials

Abrasive material meets SSPC AB1. Paint and abrasive batches certified and approved before work begins.

Blasting variants

Right abrasive, right surface.

/ 01

Shot / Grit Blasting

Efficient surface treatment for durability and superior finishing.

/ 02

Copper Slag Blasting

Aggressive cleaning of tough steel surfaces for effective rust removal.

/ 03

Garnet Blasting

Low-dust, high-cut abrasive ideal for sensitive substrates and re-blasts.
